Arnold should have tempered his enthusiasm in light of Dr. Grant's recent behavior. He had felt his mentor's growing apprehension over the past few days. He knew there were other engineers as talented as he was, but none could ever have conceived or manipulated the sixth dimensional mathematics that formed the basis of time travel. The Vedmur... Ah, what marvelously hideous creatures... Perfect in their monstrousness, fiendishly possessed of two most abominous traits -- greed and lust -- their entire existence devoted to the satisfaction of these base impulses. Theirs was an all-consuming hunger to exploit any resource, living or otherwise, driving them to acts any other sentient being would deem as astonishing depravities.
