A Science-Fiction Television Series for Children

INTRODUCTION

"I came up with this idea in early 1992 as a possible live action show for the Nickelodeon Cable Network. I wanted to give the audience a taste of the type of fun science fiction programming that I grew up with -- 'Lost in Space', 'Star Trek', 'Space: 1999', 'The Lost Saucer', 'Dr. Who' -- which in retrospect seems to make up a nearly endless list. Instead of a nostalgic rehash, I wanted to create a show where scientific concepts and morality plays could be exercised or explored in a meaningful and memorable way that kids could easily appreciate. While 'Outer Space' was not picked up, subsequent shows on Nickelodeon and other networks in this same sub-genre of science fiction was a welcome acknowledgment of the concepts' appeal."

This half-hour weekly series chronicles the adventures of a group of kids that are kidnapped by an alien scoutship on their way home from school. The crew of the alien craft are from a race of robots bent on subjugating the Galaxy. As the aliens are returning to their homeworld, the kids manage to escape with the help of Rena, an alien captive they meet onboard. Together, they manage to take control of the ship and imprison the ship's crew, but not without damaging vital computer systems. Having traveled uncontrollably through hyperspace, they are now somewhere in another galaxy, unable to return to Earth until they can find some way to repair or replace the damaged computer systems. The ship, however, is still fully functional and completely automated. With Rena's knowledge of the alien's language, they are able to learn how to use the ship's hyperspace and sub-light drive. Thus, they begin their journey, making random jumps from star system to star system, looking for supplies, food, and hopefully someone or something to help them return to Earth.
